Pronounced as "ko-luh-kay-zhuh".
Colocasia is a genus of tropical, rhizomatous perennials in the Araceae family, commonly known as “elephant ears” for their large, heart‑ or arrow‑shaped leaves that can reach up to 60 cm in length and point downward due to their drooping habit.
Originating in South and Southeast Asia, Colocasias thrive in moist, fertile soils and warm, humid conditions, spreading via underground corms to form dense clumps often exceeding 1 m in height.
Numerous cultivars are grown ornamentally for bold foliage accents in ponds, bog gardens and shaded borders, where their dramatic leaves provide tropical flair.
